Why don't we usually offer daytime balloon flights?
Great question! The simple answer is that we want to ensure you have the safest and most enjoyable flight possible. Some factors behind this decision include:
- Daytime Heat - During the day, the sun works its magic and heats up the ground. This might be great for sunbathing, but it creates a bit of a challenge for our balloons!
- Thermal Turbulence - As the ground warms up, it heats the air above it. This creates what we call 'thermals' - basically, columns of rising air. Think of it like invisible elevators of warm air shooting up into the sky.
- Bumpy Rides - These thermals can cause updrafts and downdrafts, which can make controlling the balloon tricky. It's a bit like trying to steer a boat in choppy waters - not impossible, but certainly more challenging.
- Smooth Sailing - That's why we prefer to fly during the calmer conditions of early morning or late evening. The air is more stable, allowing for a smoother, more controlled flight experience.
- Cool Exceptions: Interestingly, in early March and late October, when temperatures are lower, we sometimes get a chance to offer daytime flights. The cooler weather means fewer thermals, creating safer conditions for a daytime adventure!
We prioritise your safety and enjoyment above all else.
While we might miss out on some midday flights, we make up for it with the breathtaking views of sunrise or sunset you'll get to experience instead. It's all part of making your balloon flight truly unforgettable!
